Firefighting is a professional and humanitarian activity that deals with preventive measures against fire and explosion, extinguishing fires, rescuing people, animals and property, providing technical assistance and performing various tasks during emergencies such as accidents. Modern firefighting has gradually developed and organized under the influence of the emergence and development of various forms of firefighting techniques. In the territory of the Republic of Croatia, firefighting activities are performed by fire brigades, voluntary fire brigades (DVD) and fire brigades. A fire brigade can be a voluntary or professional public fire brigade operating in a municipality or city, a voluntary fire brigade unit, a professional fire brigade, a voluntary fire brigade unit in the economy and a rapid reaction unit. The subject of this paper is the organization of firefighting in the Republic of Croatia, while the main goal of the paper is to point out the specifics of the organization of firefighting in the Republic of Croatia, advantages and disadvantages with proposals for improving firefighting in the Republic of Croatia.
