A carcass is a valuable resource in nature. In addition to contributing to ecosystem functions such as nutrient cycling, it is food for various species of vertebrate and invertebrate scavengers. This paper presents the results of research whose goal was to examine the types of carrion animals and how often they feed on carrion in forest ecosystems and agroecosystems. Carcass samples of animals killed in traffic were exposed in front of photo traps in order to examine which carrion scavengers feed on the carrion and whether there are differences between them with regard to the time and rate of scavenging. The research showed that vertebrate scavenger removed most of the carcass biomass, with birds dominating, possibly due to their abilities to search and locate the carcass. Carcass feeding was temporally divided so that birds fed during the day and mammals at night, which confirmed the conclusions of numerous other studies dealing with the same questions.
