Abstract
Mikroplastika je naziv za plastične čestice promjera manjeg od 5 milimetara. Iako su čestice mikroplastike male, kada se nađu u oceanu ili sedimentu, opasan su oblik onečišćenja. Sveprisutan je u okolišu i svakodnevnom životu. Može se pronaći u raznim kozmetičkim preparatima kao što su paste za zube, pjene za brijanje, gelovi za tuširanje i drugi slični proizvodi. Prisutnost mikroplastike može izazvati ozbiljne probleme u prehrambenom lancu jer se na njihovim površinama mogu nakupljati razne otrovne tvari koje ribe mogu unijeti, primjerice, u svoj probavni trakt. Na taj način organizmi koji žive u vodenom okolišu imaju potencijal akumulirati toksine, čineći mikroplastiku opasnom za ljude. Mikroplastika se također može proizvoditi u okolišu jer se veći plastični fragmenti usitnjavaju i razgrađuju pod utjecajem slane vode, ultraljubičastog zračenja, oceanskih valova i drugih abiotičkih čimbenika. Mnogi znanstvenici i stručnjaci rade na rješavanju ovog problema, nadajući se da će teško razgradivu plastiku zamijeniti novim, ekološki prihvatljivijim materijalima.
Abstract (english)
Microplastic is the name for plastic particles with a diameter of less than 5 millimeters. Although microplastic particles are small, once they are in the ocean or sediment, they are a dangerous form of pollution. It is omnipresent in the environment and in everyday life. It can be found in various cosmetic preparations such as toothpastes, shaving foams, shower gels and other similar products. The presence of microplastics can cause serious problems in the food chain because various toxic substances can accumulate on their surfaces, which fish can introduce, for example, into their digestive tract. In this way, organisms living in the aquatic environment have the potential to accumulate toxins, making microplastics dangerous for humans. Microplastics can also be produced in the environment as larger plastic fragments break down and break down under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, salt water, ocean waves and other abiotic factors. Many scientists and experts are working to solve this problem, hoping to replace hard-to-degrade plastics with new, more environmentally friendly materials.
