The Croatian tax system is aligned with European standards and is equal in the position of all tax payers, resident and non-residents, physical and legal persons. The most important law in the field of tax law is the General Tax Code regulating tax-legal relations between tax payers and tax authorities. The subject of this paper is profit tax, depicted through elements that determine the character of the tax, the tax payer, the tax base and rate, the period of determination of the tax liability and the calculation and payment of the profit tax.Profit tax was introduced in the first phase of tax reform at the beginning of 1994, which has been supplemented and changed several times over the years, all in order to develop the economy and the growth of new investments. The latest changes in the system of profit tax were made under the new tax reform, which came into effect in early 2017. With the adoption of the new Profit Tax Act, new tax rebates have been introduced, a more flexible approach to the choice of the tax system, and for the first time in the taxation of profits two different tax rates are applied in the Republic of Croatia. In a specific example, profit tax return for 2016 (Form PD), company Würth-Hrvatska d.o.o., shows the calculation and payment of profit taxes, financial statements and documentation submitted to the Tax Administration.
