Abstract
Od samih početaka moderne civilizacije upravljanje otpadom bilo je od velike važnosti, povećavanjem populacije na Zemlji raste i zabrinutost oko otpada. Tehnološki napredak i urbanizacija dovode do ogromnih količina otpada koji je potrebno na neki način zbrinuti. Odlaganje otpada postaje sve veći problem jer odlagališta mogu biti izvori bolesti, zagađivači vode i zraka te mjesta širenja neugodnih mirisa. U posljednjim desetljećima sve više se mijenjaju tehnologije upravljanja otpadom. Dio otpada sadrži organske tvari koje, ako se odlažu na otvorene površine postaju uzrok akumulacije štetnih plinova kao što su metan i ugljikov dioksid. Razvijanjem novih tehnologija obrade i oporabe otpada za dobivanje energije, uz recikliranje mogu osigurati prikladno rješenje u upravljanju otpadom.
Abstract (english)
From begining of modern civilization waste managment was very important, with population growth concern about waste is rising. Tehnological progres and urbanization lead to huge amounts of waste that need to be disposed of in some way. Waste disposal is becoming an increasing problem because landfills can be sources of desease, water and air pollutions and places of spreading unpleasant odors. Waste management technologies have changed more and more in recent decades. Part of the waste contains organic substances which, if disposed of in open areas, become the cause of the accumulation of harmful gases such as methane and carbon dioxide. By developing new technologies for the treatment and recovery of waste to obtain energy, in addition to recycling, they can provide a suitable solution in waste management.
