Stirling engine has existed since the 19th century and is one of the best indicators of how in science and mechanical engineering, technology and application can be old but never obsolete. It can be improved by further research or used for other purposes. Through this paper we will present a brief history of the engine invented by Robert Stirling, how it works, the components of which it consists, types of the engine and finally the construction of an amateur Stirling engine that will serve as a electricity generator for small appliances. Stirling engine works on the principle of a closed thermodynamic cycle where heat exchange occurs and compresses and expands working fluid that drives the engine. There are Alpha, Beta and Gamma Stirling engines with variations with free or liquid piston. They all work on the same principle and have the same main components, but they are structurally different. The application of the Stirling engine is possible in everyday life and in every household, but it is a question of profitability. Regardless of the fact that this is over 200 years old technology, we can see that we still use its advantages today and we are also improving it in order to use it in space.
