Powder metallurgy is very widespread nowadays, and it is used in many productions because of its excellent characteristics and the excellent ratio between investment and profit. Nowadays, powdered metals are an indispensable material in increasingly fast and demanding productions. In order to make the tool last longer and the process itself cheaper, we have to protect the tool by modifying the surface. One way of protection is applying a coating to the tool, where the coating is applied depending on the material used for the tool, and the use of the material itself in production. PVD coatings are there to improve tools made from metal powder in the form of durability, adhesion, heating and corrosion. The first part of this work describes powder metallurgy, which are important factors for the process itself, and the division of the process into conventional processes such as sintering and compaction and the atomization process. In the second part of the work, the procedures of physical and chemical coating of the surface in the vapor phase are given in detail. In the experimental part of this work, the characteristics of ASP 23 cutting inserts were tested before and after applying the PVD coating.
