There are no devices or methods that can alter the course of natural weather events to the extent that lightning strikes can be prevented. Lightning strikes in or near buildings are dangerous for people and for the buildings themselves, their contents and installations due to the flow of very large lightning currents. A lightning protection system is a set of interconnected equipment on a building. It is used to reduce physical damage due to lightning strikes in it, and consists of an external and an internal system. The external lightning protection system consists of a clamp system, a drainage system and a grounding system, and the internal system consists of a potential equalization system. Each lightning protection system must be inspected and tested during installation and after completion, and before delivery to the user. When selecting a protection system and installing system equipment, the following installation characteristics should be determined: purpose, external influences to which it is exposed, conformity of its equipment and possibility of maintenance. The equipment to be installed must be mutually compatible, especially with regard to the mutually harmful effects caused by the flow of lightning current through it. The system equipment must be installed in such a way that it can be easily checked and maintained and that the resistance of the grounding conductor at the measuring connections during operation of the building can be easily approached and controlled. It is important to apply all activities in order to be able to perform periodic inspections, tests, repairs, ensure the effectiveness of protective measures, as well as the reliability of the equipment during its intended life.
